Objective: Students will be able to create a simple poster using Photoshop’s AI Generative tools (Fill + Expand).
Make something cool that you like! :-)
Steps:
1. Open Photoshop and create a new 1920x1080 document or open a starter image.
2. Use Generative Expand (Crop tool ® expand canvas ® Generate).
3. Use Generative Fill to add at least one new element (e.g., neon sign, waves).
4. Use Generative Fill (no prompt) to remove or clean one part of the image.
5. Add a title or text with the Type tool.
6. Apply a simple adjustment (Levels, Curves, or Camera Raw) to polish.
7. Export as JPG: lastname_poster.jpg.
Exit Reflection: One thing I learned about writing prompts is _______________________
Select the Crop Tool
In the Tools panel on the left, choose the Crop Tool (shortcut key C).
Expand the Canvas
On the crop boundary handles, click and drag outward (pull from a corner or side).
You’ll see gray/transparent areas appear — that’s your new canvas space.
Choose “Generative Expand”
At the top Options Bar, instead of “Content-Aware” fill, make sure Generative Expand is selected in the dropdown.
Click “✓” (Commit)
When you hit the checkmark (or press Enter/Return), Photoshop sends the empty space to Generative Fill.
Enter a Prompt (Optional)
If you type something (e.g., “sunset sky with clouds”), Photoshop generates fills that match your prompt.
If you leave it blank, Photoshop will automatically extend the existing image outward.
Review Variations
Photoshop will generate 3 versions. Use the Properties panel to cycle through them, and click the checkmark to keep your favorite.
Prompt Bank Examples:
1 neon city skyline at sunset, wide angle, cinematic lighting, soft haze
2 abstract gradient background, teal and orange, smooth blobs, paper texture
3 basketball court under stadium lights, shallow depth of field
4 misty pine forest at dawn, volumetric light, realistic
5 retro 80s vaporwave grid, purple/blue, stars

Objective: Students will be able to recreate the Medical Assistant Logo using the skills learned thus far in Photoshop.
Step 1 - Create a document 10 X 10 inches, 300 resolution, CMYK.
Step 2 - Lay out your design with 4 circles (Outer with stroke, inner with stroke, and the two small buttons without a stroke. Lock these layers.
Step 3 - Add the text and Arc the text using the horizontal bend (See Screenshot) - Don't use Arc Lower or Arc Upper...as it has limitations.
Step 4 - Place the Heart, the Cross, and the Medical Staff (you will have to resize these using Edit > Free Transform or CMD & T shortcut keys)
Step 5 - Double click the layer with the Medical Staff, and select a texture close to the one you see. Do the same for the two buttons.
Your logo project is now complete if you did it correctly. Remember to create new layers as you add to your logo. This will make things seem easy to you!
